Perelman scion grilled more than greed in inheritance battle

Revlon billionaire Ron Perelman’s daughter, Samantha, was established to inherit at minimum $20 million from her mother’s loved ones — such as a thirty.5-carat ring, Manhattan co-op and New Jersey manse.
She’s also in line to web a fortune from late mom Claudia Cohen’s $78 million estate — not to mention her father’s multibillion-dollar empire.
But even that is not very good enough to fulfill the 23-year-previous, her uncle’s law firm charged in a Hackensack, NJ, courtroom Tuesday.
“You did not say ‘I want to inherit $a hundred million to $50 million’?” demanded attorney Benjamin Clarke, who is defending James Cohen towards Samantha Perelman’s assert that he coerced his ailing father into chopping her out of his $600 million Hudson Information fortune.
He was referring to a 2007 assembly between Perelman and her grandfather Robert Cohen, James and Claudia’s father.

“I wouldn’t characterize it as this sort of,’’ Samantha replied to the cross-evaluation on her 2nd working day of testimony.
“You did not say ‘[I] want a 50 percent or a 3rd of your business’ to your grandfather?’’ Clarke questioned.
Perelman denied it once more.
Painting Perelman as a greedy, ungrateful wealthy kid, Clarke said Samantha coldly submitted go well with from her uncle 15 times following his father, Robert Cohen, died at age 86.
Samantha tried out to get her grandfather declared legally incompetent after he altered his will, but her bid failed.
At one particular level, Clarke recommended that the Ivy League grad pupil was pushing for something that wasn’t hers — and that she hardly necessary any far more income, anyway.
“You understand that your grandfather had the correct to deal with you as an person, not as a replacement for your mom?’’ he mentioned.
“He experienced persistently handled me and my mom the exact same,” Perelman answered.

“On the matter of your grandfather’s intentions in the direction of you, do you contend that your grandfather did not know that you are the daughter of 1 of the wealthiest gentlemen in the entire world?’’ Clarke requested.
She replied, “I really do not know how that has anything at all to do with it.”
The defense also experimented with to hammer home the notion that Ron Perelman was pulling all the strings in the lawsuit.
Clarke noted that Claudia Cohen’s 2004 will would have presented her daughter $5 million at age 25 and then fifty percent of her remaining $seventy three million fortune at age 40.
But in 2007, as she lay dying of most cancers at Sloan-Kettering, Cohen modified her will to make her ex, Ron, executor with sole manage in excess of the purse strings.
Clarke hinted that Samantha would do his bidding as extended as he managed the cash.
Samantha grew testy, declaring her father “was [her mom’s] best good friend.”
“You can’t use Ronald Perelman as a pawn,’’ she seethed. “It was for Claudia Cohen. He was doing work as an executor [when her will was modified in 2007]. He’s not this poor guy that we’re all making an attempt to beat up.’’
